Today's Holy Spirit Love Note:
Who told you today needed to be difficult? Why does that need to be your reality? Is it possible that sometimes the thing you’re worrying about getting done is worse when it’s trapped inside your head? When you actually take the next step with me, what if you expected it to be glorious? What if you knew that it was only the thought of the thing that was terrorising you rather than the actual thing itself?
Yes, I’m talking a little bit in riddles because I don’t want you to run away with the idea that every moment of life ought to be easy. Sometimes things come into your day and they’re incredibly difficult. But what if “difficult” wasn’t the norm?
You step into today from a place of privilege. You can talk to me and about me out loud without any fear of repercussions. You don’t have to worry about where your next meal is coming from. Your children aren’t going to school with holes in their socks. They have socks and that is something you don’t need to give a second thought.
I say all this not to chastise you. Instead, I need you to recognise the real gift you have as you step into this day. “Difficult” doesn’t need to be your norm because of where in the world you happen to live. It’s not an accident of course, I knew you before you were even born, but from your perspective it’s sheer, dumb luck!
If today is a gift then, what if you expected the gift to be a pleasant one? What if instead of worrying about what’s inside the wrapping, you simply opened the gift and stepped into it with joy and delight? And what if you didn’t have to will-power your way to those feelings? What if it were as simple as opening the gift with me?
