Today's Holy Spirit Love Note:
Do you trust me? Do you know, deep in your core, that I am for you, not against you, working and moving in all things for your good? Do you believe that I’m not trying to trip you up or catch you out?
Yes I know the answer to these questions but I want you to be honest with me and yourself because yes you trust me but your thoughts and actions sometimes suggest otherwise. I say this not to condemn you but because I love you. And because you have years of religious dogma to unpeel and unpack.
I am not the God of the religion you grew up with. I’m not the God of religion at all! Religion is about rules and prescribed ways of operating. I am about relationship, getting to the heart of a matter and living and moving from and with love.
Yes, from the outside looking in, some of the things you choose to do will look like religion to a stranger but this is a heart issue. This is about why you do the things you do, why you believe the things you believe.
You can’t earn my love but religion likes to control you with reminders that “faith without works is dead”. If someone needs your help and you don’t help them, you’re not a very good follower of Jesus, they say. And so you say yes to every request, never questioning why you’re wearing yourself out trying to please everyone.
Your faith does have action attached to it but again, this is a heart issue. You help someone because you want to, as an expression of love and in recognition of how much you are loved, not because you must as a demonstration of faith.
And you don’t do so at the expense of your health and well-being, wearing yourself into the ground. Instead you do so from a position of love, trusting that the one who loves you and knows you is also very able to lead and guide you in each and every situation. It all comes back to trust. Do you know, deep in your core, that I am for you, not against you, working and moving in all things for your good? Do you trust me?
